Hi there,

My name is Philip Hamming and I am running to be the Green Party candidate in the District 15 Brackley-Hunter River by-election. I wanted to reach out and share a little bit about myself.

As someone born and raised in rural PEI, I’ve always been committed to working in and giving back to my community. I grew up on my grandfather's farm in Meadowbank and my childhood and youth were spent exploring the woods and fields around my family's farm.

My lifelong passion for farming inspired me to start my own organic farm where I have worked for the past decade. In the early days of the pandemic, my husband Maurice and I purchased a farm in South Melville where I farm today.

I am an active member in my community and I’ve worked to build a network of collaboration and co-ownership of equipment between local young farmers in my area. I am dedicated to building a sustainable future for young farmers and protecting PEI land.

I have held positions on the Certified Organic Producers Coop and Growers Station, which is an Island Co-op that helps local farmers market and distribute produce. And until recently I was the Vice President of the PEI Federation of Agriculture, where I was also Chair of the Finance Committee.

In 2020, I was proud to serve on the Land Matters Committee, a committee tasked with reviewing both the Lands Protection Act and the Planning Act of PEI and making recommendations on how to strengthen both.

I am inspired by the Green Party of PEI and its Leader Matt MacFarlane’s commitment to the protection of our environment, including land, and focus on transparency and accountability. I currently serve on the Green Party Provincial Council as a member at large.

Statement:

Hunter River-Brackley and our whole Island have the resources and the spirit to create and protect a community that benefits us all, but only if we come together. I am seeking the nomination in District 15 so that I can continue to be a leader who brings people together, fosters collaboration, and listens to the shared experiences and expertise of the people in my community.

All Green Party of PEI members in good standing will have the chance to choose the candidate for District 15, and I humbly ask for your support.
