Peter Bevan-Baker Announces Plan to Provide the Best K-12 Education
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 15, 2023

Bonshaw, PE - Islanders believe children should have access to a high quality education, and the Green Party agrees. Educators need the right resources and supports to help their students achieve the best possible educational and social outcomes. We also need to ensure our schools are healthy and safe spaces for Island children.

A Green government will:

  • Increase funding to allow more teachers and educational assistants to work directly with students.

  • Hire more school counsellors to address the mental health needs of students.

  • Better plan school infrastructure for expected population growth, while keeping rural schools open and building the schools previously announced, like the planned Stratford school.

  • Implement air quality monitoring in all schools and make the upgrades needed to ensure all schools have clean air.

  • Improve opportunities for students to participate in experiential learning to increase awareness and interest in trades.

  • Make sure that our schools are safe and inclusive spaces that promote diversity and the acceptance of all people.

The Green Party will make a further announcement on improving maternal, infant, and child care in the coming days.

Quotes:

“Children and youth are the future. Investments in the Islanders who teach them and the infrastructure they share will go a long way to ensure children and youth have the best possible learning conditions and achieve the best possible outcomes.”
