PEI Green Party Celebrates Successful AGM, Welcomes New President and Council Members

Charlottetown, PEI - The Prince Edward Island Green Party is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on June 17, 2023. The event marked a significant milestone as it was the first face-to-face AGM since 2019, with over 100 passionate party members and supporters coming together to shape the future of the party.

The AGM was marked by an atmosphere of enthusiasm, engagement, and renewed commitment to the values and principles that the PEI Green Party holds dear. Members actively participated in discussions, sharing innovative ideas, and strategizing ways to build a sustainable future for the province.

During the AGM, the Party received news from Leader Peter Bevan-Baker that he would be stepping down from his role as Leader – a position he has held for ten years. Peter has been an instrumental force in driving the party's growth and success, and his departure leaves a profound impact on the party's leadership. The PEI Green Party extends its sincerest gratitude to Peter Bevan-Baker for his outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the party's values.

Despite this transition, the PEI Green Party remains resolute in its pursuit of a sustainable and prosperous future for Prince Edward Island. The AGM witnessed the election of a new President, Matt MacFarlane of Augustine Cove, PEI, and four newly elected Council members, reflecting the vibrant and diverse membership base of the party. The newly elected leadership team is committed to upholding the principles of environmental stewardship, social justice, and grassroots democracy, which form the core of the PEI Green Party's ideology.

"We are immensely grateful to all the members and supporters who participated in our AGM and made it a resounding success," said MacFarlane. "Although we bid farewell to an exceptional leader, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. We are confident in our ability to build on the foundation laid by Peter Bevan-Baker and lead the way to a Prince Edward Island that better meets the needs of all Islanders."

The PEI Green Party looks forward to embarking on this new chapter and invites all Islanders who share their vision for a better future to join them in their endeavors. By working together, the PEI Green Party believes that it can create a lasting positive impact on the environment, economy, and society of Prince Edward Island.
