Matt MacFarlane Appointed Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Prince Edward Island
Charlottetown, PE - Today Interim Leader Karla Bernard announced MLA for District 19 Borden-Kinkora Matt MacFarlane as the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Prince Edward Island.
“I’m so happy to appoint Matt as our Party’s Deputy Leader. It’s been such a pleasure having him with us in the legislature this sitting. This appointment reflects what he brings to the Green Party and all Islanders. His qualities as a thoughtful and hardworking voice for Islanders make him a great fit for this role and I look forward to what we can accomplish together,” said Bernard. “I also want to thank outgoing Deputy Leader Lynne Lund for her dedication to the Party and hard work on behalf of Islanders over the last several years.”
MacFarlane is a lifelong resident of the South Shore area and brings extensive experience and an unwavering commitment to advocating for his community. As Co-Chair for the South Shore Health and Wellness Centre, his efforts secured improved access to healthcare in the district. MacFarlane was elected in February 2024 in the District 19 by-election and serves as the Green Caucus Critic for Health and Wellness, Justice and Public Safety, Agriculture, Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population, and Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture.
“What I heard both at the door and since being elected is this government shows a lack of vision, a lack of planning, and a lack of commitment to addressing the issues facing Islanders. The only thing people are going to accept is seeing real results on the ground,” said MacFarlane. “As Deputy Leader and MLA for District 19, I will hold the government to account, voice the concerns of Islanders even when the government doesn’t want to listen and continue to support the growth of the Green Party of PEI.”
As Deputy Leader, MacFarlane will work closely with Leader Karla Bernard, the Green caucus, and Green Party members to fight for better access to healthcare, affordable housing, and a better future for all Islanders.
